We decided to skip the arrivals lounge and risk it at the W, which in retrospect probably wasn’t very smart on a week day… though we did end up lucking out.
The W is extremely convenient as it’s located directly above the Airport Express train station and mall, so we arrived around 10am–well before check in time.
We were expecting to just leave our bags at the bell desk and start exploring our favorite city, but to our delight and surprise, they had our [upgraded] room available for us. We were assigned room 3701–a “fabulous suite”–and escorted up by the check in agent. I used a SPG Platinum Suite Night Award to get the upgrade.
The room opens into a walkway to the living room with an entrance to the bathroom immediately on the right.
The living room is separated from the bedroom by a sliding door in the wall which allows it to convert into a large junior suite or a true, 2-room suite very easily. The views of Victoria Harbor were also very nice.
The bedroom was fairly small and included a king size bed and Bang and Olufsen TV.
The bathroom had dual sinks and a walk in shower/tub area.
Our stay in Hong Kong was just a quick ~36 hour stop, so we made the most of it and accomplished a lot of what we couldn’t on our last trip.
The breakfast at the W was absolutely excellent–the best of any hotel on our trip in my view.
The hotel also has a really, really cool pool on the roof with great views of Hong Kong.
Given that our flight was at 11:55pm, we requested the latest checkout possible — again hoping for the best — and they gave us the option to stay in the room until 7:00pm which was extremely generous, particularly given the absurdly early check in they also gave us. We occupied the hotel room for 33 hours on a one night stay despite the fact that they only guarantee 19 hours regularly and 25 hours for SPG elites, “subject to availability.”
The bellman collected our bags at 7:00pm and after a brief dinner nearby, we made our way to the train station below the hotel. While I was expecting to collect our bags from the bell desk, the bellman actually escorted us all the way to the train station, so kudos to the W for that.
Overall this was a very enjoyable stay with SPG benefits very well honored, and an extremely helpful staff. It was a bit steep at ~$400 for the one night, but given the upgrade and the breakfast, it was definitely worth it.
