A few days ago, reader Heather asked if I’d ever seen 3+ seats open up in Lufthansa first class.
Lufthansa has one of the best first class products around. It’s clean and elegant, the food selection is great and ground services are among the best in the world. It may be the most well rounded (and perhaps consistent) of any first class product out there with the lack of deficiencies in any aspect. All of this to say… it’s not very surprising Heather wants to put everyone in first class on her Lufthansa flight!
So short answer: Yes
Check this out:
Next week there is a flight out of DC to Munich (and all Munich-based A-330′s have the new first class) with four seats available in first class. If we take a look at the seat map, we’ll see why:
The best way scout out which flights might have or open to multiple first class awards is to find empty cabins. You can do this easily on ExpertFlyer (as pictured above or most accurately by seeing how many “F” fare seats are available for sale) or by making a fake cash booking on Luftansa.com and getting to the seat selection. It’s before payment, so just enter in a fake name, DOB, etc and then you can see the seat map.
Remember that Lufthansa only allows partners to book first class space within 14-15 days of travel. This particular flight opened up 4 award seats around 10 days out, so it’s not just on a couple days notice, either.
